Commerzbank has a new logo

Following the merger between Commerzbank and Dresdner Bank in May 2009, the corporation shows its claim to leadership in the German banking sector with a new logo created by MetaDesign.

On 28 October 2009 Martin Blessing, chairman of the executive board at Commerzbank, unveiled the company’s new logo in Frankfurt am Main in Germany. The new brand radiates quality and confidence, and is a visual expression of Commerzbank’s claim to “Partnership and Performance”.

MetaDesign, Germany’s leading agency for corporate identity and branding, guided the process and created the visuals for the financial institution’s vision and claim. “Adapting the Commerzbank brand is an important step in the long-term positioning of our company, especially in the current situation. With our new brand look we are consciously showing that the two banks are growing together,” said Uwe Hellmann, the director and head of branding at Commerzbank.

This thought is now visible in the new logo, which consists of three main elements: the name “Commerzbank” in the new typeface as a logotype, the three-dimensional image logo based on “Ponto’s eye”, the former Dresdner Bank logo, and the bank’s primary color, yellow. Together they show how something new, groundbreaking and modern is emerging from two brands with long traditions.

“Especially for banks, a strong brand that speaks to people’s emotions plays a decisive role. Confidence in the bank’s products and advice is crucial,” said Uli Mayer-Johanssen, managing director and chief design officer at MetaDesign about the Commerzbank branding process.

The new look will now be implemented throughout the entire company in phases. MetaDesign created not only the corporate design, but also a brand sound for Commerzbank. The branding agency also developed a visual concept to guide communication of the change and integration process within the company.

Commerzbank is based in Frankfurt am Main in Germany. It is the country’s second-largest financial institution and one of the biggest in Europe. The new Commerzbank now has a total of 14.5m private and corporate clients worldwide.
